We are called to the challenge and opportunity of this moment in time.

Our new Student Leadership Programme is about utilising the wealth of people, resources and knowledge within OP to support our students to step into those challenges and help shape our responses and our outlook to the future.

We are in search of students who are making the world a better place so we can support and challenge them to become more of who they want to be.

We are offering a new, edgy program to these established and emerging student movers and shakers, aimed at personal and professional development and we are ready for our first cohort.

Students will be immersed in a learning community of student peers and professional mentors, facilitated through reflective and development processes to help build their capabilities in leadership, innovation, community engagement or whatever area they want to build through this learner-led programme.

What do we want from staff?
We want you to nominate the students who you think would benefit from this and engage fully.

Please submit your nominations by August 14th

Consider the students you know who are change-makers, active community members, politically engaged, innovating their field, or really any student you see making waves in their community or emerging into that change-making space.

Who is it for?
Any OP student who wants to or is already embodying the OP value of “Our people make a better world”. Students can be based anywhere including learning via correspondence/distance and students on any OP campus.

What will students gain from this?
We will help build their capabilities to do the mahi they want to do and make the changes in the world they want to see. They will be paired with a mentor who suits their needs and will challenge them in constructive ways to meet their goals.

What are we asking of students?
Engaging with weekly group sessions. Sessions will be hybrid, held both in-person and online. There will be no assessments, no tests, no pass or fail. This is not a qualification. This programme is a gift, not a demand. Students won’t be chased up or penalised for not engaging with this program so personal commitment is essential.

What is the scope of this?
A small pilot program to test the concept and design of this vision will run until at least the end of 2020. We expect to launch fully in 2021 with a wider cohort and more defined scope of practice.

Next steps?
Upon nomination, students will meet with me to have an in-depth chat about the programme and their wants and needs. Nominators, trusted staff or formal supervisors are very welcome to be a part of this if the student desires. If everyone thinks this programme would benefit the student and they are willing to commit to this pilot, the student may be offered a place in the pilot cohort.

Please contact me to put forward the names of the students you have in mind.
