The theme for this year is “Make Privacy a Priority.” At Op we are using this week to raise your awareness of the Privacy Act and your rights and responsibilities under it.
A great way to do this is to try one of the free e-learning modules. Even if you’ve done one before, we recommend refreshing your knowledge regularly. At OP we recommend you do the complete the following two courses as a starting point:

Reported privacy breaches double with new Privacy Act, below are the most common serious breaches by type.
- 25% are email error
- 21% are unauthorised sharing
- 17% are unauthorised access
- 10% are Website/IT error
- 27% are other
To mark Privacy Week, the Privacy Commissioner’s Office has published their first stock take of privacy breach reporting since the Privacy Act changed on 1 December 2020. They have received a 97 percent increase in privacy breach notifications in the first four months of the new Act, compared to the previous six months.
