About Dunedin School of Art
Make, learn and thrive
We provide a true art school experience through hands-on making in spacious, well-equipped workshops and studio facilities.
Our school community is welcoming and supportive allowing you to enrich your own unique art practice and to explore career options. We offer flexible teaching methods that are designed for visual thinkers. Our lecturers are working artists with wide-ranging practices.
Dunedin School of Art sits beside the river Leith/Owheo, close to the harbour parks and the city.
Students learn in a model that shifts between shared courses on the development of ideas, concepts and approaches, and more self-directed work on the student’s own artistic development in well-appointed workshops.
Students gain the time-honoured artistic skills of developing concepts to give them form, or, in te reo, whaka ahua.
We offer short courses, one and two-year Diplomas, a three-year Bachelor of Visual Arts and a range of postgraduate approaches suited to a range of prior experiences.
The DSA Gallery is the centre of our building and our practices, used by all within the school at different times and by many professional artists. Our Seminar programme and research projects allow us to invite the public to hear the school’s skilled artists and educators together with significant visiting artists and theorists. Our faculty exhibit regularly, as often overseas as here in Otepoti. We are proud to see our students’ work showcased in the annual exhibition SITE, when the school is filled with their work.
